Tips on Where to Look
Platinum is rare but not impossible to find. Here are some spots where you might get lucky with your search.
Placer Deposits

Check out streams and rivers. Platinum is heavy and sinks to the bottom of moving water. You’ll want to grab your pan and look in the same spots where you’d search for gold.

Plum Creek area

The Plum Creek area in Pierce County runs through the heart of western Wisconsin. This area became famous in the late 1800s when gold seekers flocked here after hearing stories of riches.
The special thing about this place is the Rock Elm Disturbance, an ancient meteorite impact site that’s about 6 kilometers wide. This crater formed about 455 million years ago and created unique rock conditions.
